A notable civic landmark possessing a most elaborate clock tower atop the central gable. Pevsner asks "what styles of the past have begotten this? Perhaps the early C16 is the nearest one can get to it". This is a reference to the Perpendicular Gothic tracery in the cupolas and first-floor windows. By Huon A. Matear, 1890-92. Grade II listed. Still in service as a magistrates' court and family court.
