This is the starting point of the Deeping and Morcott turnpike of 1762, now the A6121. See http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4912929 for location. Milestone Society description: Cast iron post by the A6121 (was A47), in parish of MORCOTT (RUTLAND District), Stamford Road; Peterborough Road jct, against stone wall on verge, on North side of road. Rutland iron casting, erected by the Deeping & Morcott turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- : TO / STAMFORD / 8 / (MILES) / : : TO / UPPINGHAM / 4 / (MILES) / : MORCOTT / : Listed. Milestone Society National ID: RU_UPSF04.
