A fine 18th century house set at the top of a sweep of parkland that, miraculously, has escaped the clutches of planners and developers. It was the home for a time of James Edward Stoddart and his wife Agnes Young, a daughter of the famous James 'Paraffin' Young, but it had fallen into a sorry state the first time I saw it.
