This carved tympanum was once situated over the main doorway of the old Huddersfield Cricket and Athletic Club gymnasium complex on St John's Road. The two sporting organisations merged in 1875. The central muscular figure represents the classical divine hero Hercules or Heracles as he is referred to in the Greek tradition.
