Number 116a is located on the corner and was originally a town house in Norfolk Road that was converted into a bank in 1895 for Capital and Counties who moved from Image on the south eastern side of Norfolk Square. Capital & Counties was absorbed by Lloyds after World War One who continued operating here until closing the branch in the early 1990s. Since 2001 it has been a fish and chip restaurant called Bankers which offers both a takeaway and restaurant service and is generally believed by locals to be a chippy of much higher quality than those who peddle towards the tourist. Bankers has also extended into 116 which had operated independently previously. It was a coach builder in 1845, a fruit and potato merchant during the 1860s, a cabinet maker into the 1870s, then just under forty years as a furniture dealer, one of whom James Abell would extend into neighbouring Image By 1914 it was a trunk maker, then 30 years as a ladies hairdresser before return to furniture in the 1960s. A brief period as a sex aid supplier was followed by Trend Hair Boutique who dealt in wigs trading under a variety of names (Trend Wig Centre, Trendman Toupees and Trendco) and still trade today further down the Hove part of Western Road in Sheridan House. 116 1845-1856 - COACH BUILDER (W West) 1859-1867 - FRUIT & POTATO MERCHANT (WH Benham) 1868-1874 - CABINET MAKER (Hoad & Clarke1868—71, G Harrison 1874) 1875-1913 - FURNITURE (JW Broadbridge & Sons 1875-77, C Fieldus 1879-84, James Abbell 1887-1904, Bensley & Rooke 1906-07, Emm & Co 1911-13) 1914-1932 - TRUNK MAKER (Fred Larkin) 1933-1962 - LADIES HAIRDRESSER (E Steiger & Sons) 1964-1970 - HOUSE FURNISHERS (Jordan & Cook) 1973-1974 - SEX AID SUPPLIES (La Vie en Rose 1973, With Love 1974) 1982-1999 - WIG SUPPLIERS (Trend Hair Boutique) 116a Built 1895 1896-1990 - BANK (Capital & Counties 1896-1918, Lloyds 1919-90) 116-116a 2001-2016 - FISH & CHIP RESTAURANT (Bankers)
