Many years ago, before WWII, a walkway existed allowing passengers to interchange between this station and Hackney Downs station on the Great Eastern line. But with the war, Hackney Central was closed and the walkway became disused and was removed. Only recently has it been renewed, and is certainly well used. Although it is quite a long walk, it is safer than the road based route with its traffic. Here the eastern end of the walkway is seen, at Hackney Central.
