Much of the north side of Doncaster Road at the town end has been demolished leaving sites sowem of which have been vacant for many year. From time to time new plans are announced but nothing ever happens. The barrier is part of a scheme that sees Scunthorpe town centre closed in the evenings and early hours at weekends as a matter of public safety. Drunks and cars don't mix.
