This is the view from Newton Road, the A4041 from Sutton Park to West Bromwich, north west along the Tame Valley Canal. The canal was authorised in 1839 and it opened in 1844, the engineer being James Walker. It is 8.5 miles long with the 13 Perry Barr Locks and runs from Tame Valley Junction with the Walsall Canal. At Salford Junction, its other terminus, it connects with the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal and the Grand Union Canal. At Perry Locks the level drops by 106 feet. With plentiful public transport it makes an ideal day or half-day walk. Source: Wikipedia. Time photo taken 2.58 pm GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).
