The inscription on the front reads: TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS TOWN, WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR, 1914 - 1918, FOR THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM, HONOUR, AND JUSTICE, THIS MEMORIAL IS ERECTED. "AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN, AND IN THE MORNING, WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM" ALSO OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES 1939 - 1945
