On the right near the eastern end of this City alley is a sign for the Old Doctor Butler's Head, a Shepherd Neame pub. Dr Butler was apparently a fraud who never qualified in medicine but nevertheless managed to become physician to James I. His 'medicinal ales' were sold in various pubs around London but this is the only one still bearing his name.
