View northward from Northumberland Road. Closed 15/6/64, Tweedmouth station was a magnificent edifice with a substantial hotel, but 50 years later all has been obliterated. Just discernible in the background is the line of the railway, which crosses the road just off to the left. This is the ex-NER (York, Newcastle & Berwick) section of the ECML, electrified in 1991. To the left the main line goes over the Royal Border Bridge to Berwick-on-Tweed and Edinburgh. Until closed 15/6/64, the ex-NER/NBR branch from St Boswells via Kelso joined at Tweedmouth Junction - facing the wrong way for services to Berwick all had to reverse in Tweedmouth station. Off to the right here is the remnant of the formerly (pre-1984) important Tweedmouth Marshalling Yard and Locomotive Depot, also the Tweed Dock branch, then the main line goes on to Newcastle and the South.
