The Ballynure bypass, looking towards Larne, from the flyover on the Templepatrick Road. One of the reasons for the dualling of the remainder of the road was to improve access to Larne harbour. At the time of planning it was served by seven ships on three routes. The recession, the closure of the freight service to Troon, the withdrawal of the high-speed ferry to Troon and Cairnryan and Stena’s closure of the Fleetwood service now leaves Larne with just two ferries operating to Cairnryan.
