The spinal road across the island runs north of its highest point at 64 metres (210 feet) high at Ward Hill. Many of the farms have these distinctive "red hot pokers", or kochia, blooming at the roadsides in June. In the distance here, beyond the pastures, is the tidal Ouse and Veantrow Bay.
