New Marton Top Lock, Shropshire

New Marton Lock No 2. There are two very rural locks west of New Marton. Together they allow a rise of 12ft 4in (3·75 metres). Ahead is New Marton Bridge, No 12W. The Shropshire Way long distance footpath passes along the towpath here. The Llangollen Canal reaches from Hurleston Junction (Shropshire Union Canal) to Llantysilio, a distance of 46 miles (74 kilometres). There are 21 locks.
