Having now closed the museum is moving to the restored Lews Castle and due to open in April 2016. The category B listed building is an 1896 surviving part of former Free Church seminary school, latterly the Nicolson Institutes's Secondary School. It was converted to a museum in 1995, the school having survived here until the 1990s.
