This historic hotel is on the junction on High Street and The Market Place. The photographer has frequented the bars and restaurants in this establishment. According to AA Oldham's book the present hotel was built in 1700 although some parts around the courtyard may be older. The earliest documented reference to a tavern or hotel on this site is 1435 and very early names include The Swan - The Horn and Pheasant - The Pheasant and Trumpet.
