The inscription reads: In Commemoration of the Royal Naval Personnel who served at HMS Ringtail Royal Naval Air Station Burscough which was operational on this site between the 1st of September 1943 and the 18th of June 1946 for radar training and as a base for squadrons disembarked or working up for shipboard operations during World War II.
