The lychgate was built in 1897 almost certainly to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria's accession to the throne. There is a plaque commemorating the Jubilee inside the lychgate. Presumably this lychgate was a replacement for an earlier one, as the church dates from the 12th century, if not earlier. Image
