Originally a track called the Droveway that formed the parish boundary between Rottingdean and Telscombe and still today divides the suburb of Saltdean, the residents to the west are administered by Brighton Council whilst those to east come under Lewes District Council. St Martin's Chapel on the left was the only building along the road by the end of the 1940s though the rest was developed during the following decade.
