Built in 1856 using material salvaged from the demolition of a Catholic chapel in nearby Irnham, the church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was designed by architects Weightman, Hadfield & Goldie. The extensive site included a home for the priest, a school room and a graveyard. The church closed in 2012, and has stood unused since but work has now started on some sort of redevelopment.
