Pubs called The Turk’s Head in the UK are usually very old as they date to medieval times and the wars with the Saracens in the Crusades. Although this pub isn’t that old (it dates to 1745) The Lower Turk’s Head on Shudehill is one of the three oldest public houses in the city along with the Sawyer’s Arms on Deansgate and Sinclair’s Oyster Bar on Exchange Square. There used to be a pub called The Upper Turk’s Head further along Shudehill but that disappeared many years ago.
