– This led to Adkin Flats Colliery in the 19C (Adkin has become Acton over the years), but beyond the semi-detached houses it became a footpath by the mid-20C, and was then cut off by the M62. Now then road has been taken over by a factory, but a public footpath across the yard is still shown by the OS. In 1850 there was a workhouse on the right (east) side of the road.
