Prior to construction of the current bus station, buses turned here outside the station entrance, and picked up on the station approach road. The bus is Orpington Buses branded CentreWest D40, a brand new Dennis Dart/Plaxton Pointer, one of the last of its type to be built as the low floor version was already in production. It is operating on route R9, one of the Orpington local services formerly branded as "Roundabout" (hence the R prefix). Not long before this picture was taken, CentreWest successfully tendered for several routes in and around Orpington (including this one), opening a new depot to operate them as they were well away from the company's existing operations.
