In Scotland the game of golf is not as elitist or socially divisive as it is elsewhere, in fact it very much a working class pastime. Consequently many golf courses, such as this one, are owned and run by local councils. It was built on the industrial waste land left by the Dora coalmine from which the golf course takes its name.
