The path for pedestrians across Park Square in front of Worthy Pearson's news agency is clearly marked to deter vehicles from parking there. After several days of heavy rain and sodden fields Skitterbeck which flows under the road just behind the red car has overflowed. The beck is culverted all the way to outflow into the River Leven opposite Suggitts. Park Square was the site of the village pump dug in 1878 to alleviate the deficiency of water in the east end of the village. The square is now entirely tarmaced over. By the way in the photo the word 'PATH' is hidden by the flood water.
