Originally laid out prior to the First World War with the road stretching south to the cliff top and called The Avenue. It retained this name until 1954 when the houses on the left were the first to be built on the road which by then had been truncated with the construction of Marine Drive in 1932, the southern part beyond the junction with Image is now a public footpath.
