This little cottage - which operated as a dairy when I was a lad - is actually a listed building, known to Historic England as '5 Wharf Road' (though in what deranged numbering scheme it is number 5 I cannot imagine). The listing is rather confused, describing it as "A 2-storey early C19 cottage of which the end curved wall is a remnant of a former bastion of the town wall" The Bastion would be several hundred years older than that, and I am not sure that the wall is indeed a remnant, so much as the shape of the plot and hence the shape of the wall being one.
