Although the present buildings date from the 1970s there has been a station on this site since 1865; before that the original station buildings dating from 1840 were very slightly to the north. The current train service operated by Abellio is to Hertford (East) and Bishop's Stortford (northbound) and to London (Liverpool Street) and Stratford (southbound).
