Built by Newark and District Young Archaeologists the replica Iron Age hut was built during summer 2009. The hut is constructed from natural materials throughout. A circle of wood stakes, 3 metres in diameter, supports the wattle and daub walls, which stand approximately 1 metre high. The stakes are interwoven with willow and the gaps filled with daub made from a mixture of soil and straw. Wooden rafters support the thatched roof which contains approximately 100 bundles of sedge.
