This station has now become a major interchange of the London Overground: far over on the left on Platform 8 is a train bound for Stratford: it is using the 25kV overhead line feed. Trains in the opposite direction go to Clapham Junction via Shepherds Bush, or to Richmond. In the centre we see platform 2, where a train is waiting to depart for West Croydon, having terminated here. And further to the right is Platform 1, also used to terminate trains which may have come from New Cross (SER) or Crystal Palace. The London Overground is a hugely successful enterprise showing the large payback to be got from investment in modern infrastructure. Far beneath the surface here are four more platforms, with Underground trains on the Victoria line, as well as a national rail line from Moorgate to Finsbury Park and points north.
