Grade I Listed 15th century gatehouse incorporating 14th century fabric. A date of 1753 incised on a door jamb reflects the date of remodelling. The first floor was formerly a single large chamber and may have been a court-room. The post office incorporated into the Gatehouse features an unusual "Ludlow" style white postbox which is thought to be one of only three in the country. The first wall boxes were installed in 1857 and presumably this one followed some time after. Originally postboxes could be any colour and thanks to Hilda Askew who was postmistress for 34 years this one retained its original colour when it was proposed to paint it red. See Image
