Also known as Hill Street Bridge, this is one of three Metro bridges closed to traffic for strengthening work by Nexus who run the Tyne & Wear Metro. New crash barriers will be installed on the bridges as part of the project, which will be designed to prevent structural damage in the event one is hit by a car or lorry.
