The memorial stone in Welshpool Memorial Gardens is dedicated to Lance Corporal Paul Thomas of Buttington, near Welshpool, who was killed during a clash with militia forces in Basra on August 17th 2004. The stone was officially unveiled by the Welshpool and District branch of the Royal British Legion on June 11th 2010.
