The former New York Hotel, presently under scaffolding, was a rebuild in the 1920s, and altered 1954. Circa 1961, it was known as the New York Hotel & Ballroom. It closed circa 2003 and in 2005 was due for redevelopment as a new hotel. The building has, however, remained derelict and suffered from a major fire in May 2015. Demolition began from the rear in November 2015. Looking forward to Hull City of Culture 2017, the City Council is keen to have this eyesore removed as it faces the entrance to the railway station across the road. See also: Image
