The memorial stone marks the spot where a USAAF B-17 Flying Fortress crash landed on February 22nd 1944 causing the deaths of the ten crewmen on board. They had been on a bombing mission to Aalborg, Denmark but it was thwarted by Luftwaffe fighters. The "Mi-Amigo" had to limp back to England - heading for its homebase in Northamptonshire but they never made it.
