In November 2015 there is no identifier here to explain the significance of this old machinery of the corner of St Michael's Gate and St Michael's Street. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4744880 to another view. UPDATE May 2020. Chris Allen told me that this is a hand worked crane without the jib. It was almost certainly a wooden jib slotted in the big inclined socket projecting from the base.
