During the Second World War, this pillbox used to guard the Chain Home radar station at nearby Stoke Holy Cross > http://www.geograph.org.uk/article/RAF-Stoke-Holy-Cross-Chain-Home-radar-station/1. The last remaining radar tower of this station can be seen in the background. To its right is a modern communications mast.
