The stone was laid on 14 November 1884 by the Earl of Zetland. That would have been the third Earl, Lawrence Dundas, a local Conservative politician, Masonic Grand Master and later Mayor of Richmond (source: Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Dundas,_1st_Marquess_of_Zetland ) In this exposed location I hope the weather was as warm for the Earl and the congregation as it was on the November day I visited the church.
