In November 2015, the pillarbox faces the entrance to the Newport Central Travelodge. The GR on the box dates it to the reign of King George V (May 1910- January 1936) when much of the surrounding area was very different. Long since demolished buildings formerly nearby include the Lyceum Theatre, a grand building in the Classical style, on the corner of Station Street and Bridge Street, and St Luke's church, the site of which is now a car park.
