The line through Greenford was built between 1903 and 1906 from the Great Western Main Line at Old Oak Common to the Chiltern Main Line at South Ruislip. A full history of this line can be seen at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acton-Northolt_Line The Greenford branch of the Great Western Railway joined it and was used for regular passenger services from 1904, opening on 1st October of that year. The original Greenford station lay to the west of Oldfield Lane North. The present station, to the east of Oldfield Lane North, was built for the Central line extension of the 1935-40 New Works Programme of the London Passenger Transport Board. It opened on 30th June 1947. Service at the original station was gradually reduced and it was closed in 1963. This view looks across the bay platform which is situated between the Underground platforms and is used by trains on the Greenford branch service operated by First Great Western from West Ealing on the Paddington Main Line. They terminate here. Beyond is the London-bound Central line platform and in the distance is Horsenden Hill.
