The River Wensum rises between the villages of Colkirk and Whissonsett in north-west Norfolk. It is navigable from the centre of Norwich to its confluence with the River Yare. The complete river is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Area of Conservation (http://jncc.defra.gov.uk/ProtectedSites/SACselection/sac.asp?EUCode=UK0012647 Joint Nature Conservation Committee).
