The A1 passes over the minor road from Longwhitton which passes through to the A192. The diversion sign relates to the closure of St Leonard's Lane which is currently closed to all, including cyclists and pedestrians, during the construction of a new interchange on the A1 which will link to the Morpeth northern by-pass - also under construction. This closure necessitates a lengthy detour via Morpeth town.
