The eastern portal of the 220 yard tunnel built in the late 1830s, see http://regencysociety-jamesgray.com/volume31/source/jg_31_014.html for a contemporary watercolour. Jill of Jack and Jill windmill fame once stood above the tunnel until moved to its present position at Clayton in 1848. Viewed from New England Road bridge, see Image for an opposite view.
