Tickton has grown rapidly since the mid twentieth century. So, it is difficult to discern what the village might have looked like before then. It seems to have an unusually large number of single storey dwellings such as this which would have given it an appearance rather more like an Irish village than somewhere in East Yorkshire. Were single storey buildings favoured because of the rather wet conditions near the River Hull?
