This new sign made me think about the history of this lane. It is a public footpath but has it ever been a public road? Its last use was as access to a mink farm, now derelict, and perhaps the tarmac surface was for that. There were also quarries at The Rough, and Elland UDC Water Works had a reservoir at SE120205, with no access road shown on the 1940 6” map.
