This hole in the ground is called the Hogpit, or Hogpit Pond in the A-Z. It was the header for a water mill in Carshalton High Street. In wet winters there is sometimes standing water in the bottom. This is the site for the local annual fireworks display around 5th November when a massive bonfire is lit in the bottom of the Hogpit.
