Virtually in the middle of the square; there are five routes from here, three byways and two footpaths. The one most clearly visible is called the Old Highway, the original route from Newport to the east of the island. The Isle of Wight has the reputation of having the most accessible and most completely signposted network of footpaths and bridleways of all Councils; being the only one to meet a target for 100% signage by 2004. Having spent two days here I cannot disagree with that claim.
