The Quad inside Old College. The Quad was part of the rebuilding of Old College in 1887 following a fire in 1885. This section of the building was designed by John Pollard Seddon, who was responsible both for its original design (as the Castle Hotel) and the rebuilding, all in Victorian Gothic. The roof was added later, in 1893. The statue is of Henry Austin, Baron Aberdare, the first president of the University College of Wales (now Aberystwyth University).
