The Post Office on Newton Street was part of a large, mainly Edwardian building which dates from 1909 and occupies a large plot of land between Faraday Street and Houldsworth Street incorporating a large sorting office annexe (1965-8) on the Lever Street side. Today the major part of the building has been converted into a residential complex known as The Sorting House. Until recently the Faraday Street end of the building was still used as a Crown Post Office but that is now also closed and there is only a postbox Image outside.
