Southern end of the Tyne Tunnels

The Tyne road tunnels carry the A19 under the Tyne and emerge at Jarrow at the southern end. The tunnel to the left is the original tunnel of 1968 which carried two-way traffic, but now provides two lanes in a northerly direction. The tunnel to the right is the new tunnel opened in 2011 which provides two lanes in a southerly direction.
